Issues in Diversity and Social Change lecture series continues; Education first topic discussed
The campus will once again sponsor the lecture series titled "Issues in Diversity and Social Change."
The series is a collaboration with Bankole Thompson, senior editor of the Michigan Chronicle, and brings local leaders to campus to share their views on matters of importance to southeast Michigan.
Audience members are encouraged to ask questions and exchange ideas with the panel.
The first forum, "Michigan’s Education Crisis: Issues Facing the Next Governor," will take place on Thursday, Sept. 30. The panel includes:
Carol Goss, president and CEO, Skillman Foundation
Curtis Ivery, chancellor, Wayne County Community School District
Daniel Little, chancellor, UM-Dearborn
Reginald Turner, attorney and member of the State Board of Education
Tom Watkins, former Michigan superintendent of public instruction
The lecture will be held at Fairlane Center North, Quad E, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Registration is required. Admission is free.
Future topics include lectures and discussion on the 2010 Census and public transportation.
