The event featured artist Vera Sattler, who created the penguin stained-glass artwork. Sattler told the story of how the stained-glass piece was created. It was a lengthy process involving hard physical work.

Family and co-workers fondly remembered Elkins, her dedication to the library, her brave battle with breast cancer and her fondness for penguins. Some of Elkins’ personal artwork was also on display in the gallery during the reception.
