From White Supremacist to Tolerance Advocate: Free tickets available for Frank Meeink event on March 6

How does a person go from being a white supremacist filled with hate to being a champion for tolerance and diversity? Come hear Frank Meeink, former white supremacist and Neo-Nazi, tell his story Wednesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts, located in West Bloomfield.

“Frank Meeink became a SkinHead at 13. By 18 he was roaming the country as a SkinHead leader and Neo-Nazi recruiter, with gangs that would beat people indiscriminately. In Illinois he had his own cable-access TV show, "The Reich". He was finally arrested and convicted of kidnapping and beating a member of a rival SkinHead gang. While in prison he befriended men he used to think he hated, men of different races. After being released from prison, Meeink tried to rejoin his old SkinHead pals but couldn't bring himself to hate those whom he now knew to be his friends.” From Frank’s website

Associate Provost Marty Hershock to discuss new book

Marty Hershock, associate provost and associate professor of history, will discuss his book,
"A New England Prison Diary: Slander, Religion, and Markets in Early America."

A micro history built around the diary of Timothy Joy, the book portrays a down-on-his-luck New Hampshire debtor imprisoned for slander after telling false stories about a powerful politician at a time of extreme partisanship.

The discussion will be held on Wednesday, March 6, from 3-4:30 p.m. on the second floor of the library.
