Michigan economic executive to speak at Savvy Entrepreneur series

UM-Dearborn College of Business LogoAmy Cell, senior vice president at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), will visit campus this week to discuss programs that connect talented people with great jobs in Michigan as part of the College of Business’ collaboration in hosting the Savvy Entrepreneur Series (SES).

This speaker series, which is open to the public and free for attendees who register online prior to the event, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in Room 180 of UM-Dearborn’s Fairlane Center South Building, located at 19000 Hubbard Dr. Networking and onsite registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., with Cell’s presentation and a panel discussion commencing at 6 p.m.

The Savvy Entrepreneur Series is a collaboration between the College of Business and Henry Ford Community College that is geared toward providing early to mid-stage technology entrepreneurs with guidance on key topics that all startups must navigate to realize success. The SES is produced by the Great Lakes Chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum, the Great Lakes Entrepreneurs' Quest and TiE.

As senior vice president of talent enhancement for the MEDC, Cell directs talent programs to support attraction and retention, economic gardening and entrepreneurship.

Cell previously was vice president, talent enhancement and entrepreneurial education for Ann Arbor SPARK where she created the talent function for SPARK and launched a number of innovative programs to help support growing innovation based companies and start-ups.

Cell also worked as a CPA for Plante & Moran and launched an Office of Student Life for the Ross School of Business. She spent 10 years in a variety of human resources roles at Ford Motor Company, the Stanford Research Institute, Applied Biosystems and co-founded the consulting partnership HR Drivers, based in Silicon Valley, where she helped develop outsourcing models and programs for HR service delivery to start-up organizations.

In addition to Cell’s presentation, an expert panel of entrepreneurs and investors will give insight into supporting a creative environment to retain and attract talent to keep your organization innovative and relevant in today's changing world.
