MiVote.org provides election day resources

October 25, 2010

Election Day is only eight days away. Many political analysts feel this year's election is one of the most important elections in state history.

UM-Dearborn, in partnership with Detroit Public Television and Center for Michigan, have developed an interactive website called MiVote.org to provide Michigan residents with comprehensive candidate information and an opportunity to share views and opinions with others.

Mivote.org provides the following content:

" Video recording of the only debate between gubernatorial candidates Rich Snyder and Virg Bernero
" Candidate profiles and videos of state house of representative and senate races
" Political insights by Tim Kiska, assistant professor of communications at UM-Dearborn
" Political news and information impacting local, state and national elections

In addition to mivote.org the campus will play host to two Election Day forums:

U-M Board of Regents

UM-Dearborn Student Government will host U-M Board of Regents candidates on Monday, Oct. 25, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. on the University Center stage.

Democratic candidates Greg Stephens and Paul Brown and Republican and incumbent candidate Andrew Richner will provide an overview of their platforms and answer student questions.

Proposal 1 - State Constitutional Convention

The UM-Dearborn College Republicans will host a debate on Proposal 1, convening a state constitutional convention.

Dennis Lennox, co-chair of Yes on Proposal 1, and Dan Osterman, former state senate candidate and member of Campaign for Liberty, will debate both sides of the proposal.

The debate will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Social Science Building, Room 1500.
