School of Education receives 'exemplary' ranking third year in a row

For the third year in succession, the University of Michigan-Dearborn teacher preparation program has been designated as EXEMPLARY -- the highest category available – by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

UM-Dearborn’s Teacher Preparation Institution (TPI) performance score placed it 6th among the state’s 15 public universities.

“I am extremely pleased at this positive endorsement of our professional preparation program,” said Edward A. Silver, dean of the School of Education and William A. Brownell Collegiate Professor of Education. “I congratulate the faculty, staff and students in the UM-Dearborn School of Education teacher preparation program for this important recognition and for a record of sustained excellence! I also wish to thank the faculty in CASL who work with our students and help to provide the necessary subject matter foundation needed for teaching.”

To make these program designations, the MDE uses a complex, multi-faceted evaluation system that includes several different indicators of program characteristics, with special attention to teacher candidates’ content knowledge and preparatory experiences.
