The University of Michigan has officially launched a search for the next chancellor of the UM-Dearborn campus.
President Mark Schlissel has appointed a 14-member search advisory committee to assist him in this search process. Schlissel will co-chair the committee with Ghassan Kridli, associate dean of undergraduate education, and professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, College of Engineering and Computer Science, UM-Dearborn. “When Chancellor Little announced that he would step down, we knew we had a big task before us to identify and recruit a similarly outstanding new leader for the Dearborn campus. Our process will include significant outreach to all parts of the Dearborn community and multiple opportunities for input on the desired qualities, experience, and areas of focus for the new chancellor,” Schlissel said.
The search seeks to replace Chancellor Daniel Little, who after 18 years of service plans to step down as UM-Dearborn's chief executive officer at the end of his current term, June 30, 2018. He will remain a faculty member.
The search process will begin with two campus town halls hosted by the search advisory committee Sept. 29 from 9-10:30 a.m. and Oct. 2 from 3-4:30 p.m. Both events will take place on the UM-Dearborn campus at 1500 Social Sciences Building.
The committee also plans to meet with specific groups in the coming weeks to receive input about the desired qualities, experience and areas of focus for the new chancellor. “The committee will be looking for constructive input on the opportunities and the challenges for the next chancellor,” Kridli said. “The committee will use the community’s input to build the desired profile of a future campus leader. This information will assist the search firm to identify and recruit candidates who have the desired qualities and will guide President Mark Schlissel when he recommends the next chancellor to the Board of Regents.”
As with other searches for U-M executive officers, the selection process will remain confidential until Schlissel makes his recommendation to the Board of Regents. “This confidentiality has proven essential in previous executive level searches to attract a large and outstanding pool of experienced and qualified candidates,” Schlissel said.

The executive search firm Park Square Executive Search has been retained to assist in the effort and consultants Jonathan Fortescue and Anne Coyle will assist with the search. Britney Rashleigh, project manager in the Office of the President, will provide staff support.
