Roger Verhey, professor emeritus of mathematics, and Kim Killu, associate professor in the School of Education, collaborated on a $220,447 grant from the Michigan Department of Education to provide professional development activities to Wayne County Special Education teachers to improve the teaching of algebra.

Dohoy Jung, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, received two awards totaling $81,728 from Hyundai Kia Motors to provide training and research experiences for visiting scholars from Hyundai Kia Motors. One scholar will focus on the interrelationship between fuel properties and how they affect the gasoline direct injection engine. The other will focus on high efficiency cooling systems.

Jung also collaborated with Eric Ratts, associate professor of mechanical engineering, on a $50,000 award from the Denso North America Foundation to provide a group of students the opportunity to design and construct a test apparatus for improving a thermal management system using a nanofluid for automotive applications.

Yubao Chen, professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, received $75,886 from EcoMotors International to develop a system level optimization method for an automobile engine they are developing.
