Appointments, promotions, major gifts and other news from the September meeting of the U-M Board of Regents.

Chancellor's update

Chancellor Domenico Grasso shared news of the increased student participation in this year’s newly designed Go Blue Orientation Day and Convocation, UM-Dearborn’s notable U.S. News and World Report rankings, this month’s Thought Leader sessions and the new Henry Ford Museum student membership benefit. He also welcomed new vice provost for enrollment management, Melissa Stone. 

Personnel actions

New appointments and promotions for regular associate and full professor ranks, without tenure: Gengxin Li (interim approval granted), associate professor, statistics, without tenure, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, CASL, effective September 1, 2019.

Other personnel transactions for regular instructional staff and selected academic and administrative staff: Melissa Stone, vice provost for enrollment management, effective September 15, 2019 through September 14, 2022.

Committee Appointments

Citizens Advisory Committee: Donna M. Inch, retroactive, reappointment, four-year term, September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2023.

College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters Executive Committee: William I. Clarkson, retroactive, one-year term, September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020.

New appointment of instructional staff represented by the Lecturers’ Employee Organization: James A. Gromak, Ph.D., Lecturer I, philosophy, Department of Literature, Philosophy, and the Arts, CASL, September 1 through December 31, 2019. 


Additional actions

The Regents approved the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Life name change. The action creates the Division of Enrollment Management and the Division of Student Affairs, both reporting to the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
