New Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs - Bryan Dadey (December 22, 2020)

Dear Colleagues,

Last October, I announced the launch of a national search to hire a new Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs (VCBA), with a working title of Chief Financial Officer. The solicitation drew a large and highly talented pool of individuals. A search advisory committee, chaired by university Chief Information Officer, Carrie Shumaker, identified several highly-accomplished candidates for “on-campus” interviews both in Dearborn and Ann Arbor. Today, I am happy to announce the appointment of Bryan Dadey as our new Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, pending Regental approval. Bryan will join the university and begin his duties on February 1, 2021.

I am excited to add Bryan to our leadership team. He has an outstanding business and finance background and shares our vision for UM-Dearborn's future and strategic plan. Bryan has a strong and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, financial integrity and the transparent communication of decision making.

Bryan comes to us with 21 years of progressive leadership experience in finance, budgeting, facilities and human resources, especially with comprehensive urban universities. Most recently, he served as Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Wayne State University, where he provided leadership and direction to the Finance Division including the Controller's Office, Bursar Office, Treasury Office, Office of University Budget, and Office of Risk Management. Prior to Wayne State, he worked in various finance leadership roles at the University of Toledo. Before joining higher education, he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with Ernst and Young, LLC where he was a manager in charge of audits of universities and other non-profit organizations. Bryan holds an MBA from the University of Toledo and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio State University.

As VCBA, Bryan will provide leadership and strategic oversight of financial services, budget, facilities and operations, auxiliary operations, procurement and contracts and human resources. He will coordinate with U-M DPPS in Ann Arbor to support the campus public safety and emergency management mission.

I am thankful for the hard work done by Carrie and the entire search advisory committee. Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure to interact directly with the directors of the various business affairs units and have been impressed with their expertise and dedication to the success of UM-Dearborn. Along with the search advisory committee, their input helped me identify the best person for this position. I want to thank them for continuing to make this transition as seamless as possible.

Please join me in welcoming Bryan to the university and wishing him all the best as he begins this new role at his new home!
