Electrical System Planning

This certificate provides fundamental knowledge, emerging practices, and real-world applications of electrical power system planning and operation. Topics include generation planning, transmission planning, and distribution planning. The certificate is ideal for professionals who want to enhance their capabilities in power system planning and operation, as well as experienced professionals who want to receive the necessary retraining to change careers. (9 credit hours)

The certificate can be completed entirely on campus, entirely online, or through a combination of on-campus and online courses.   

Course Options

The courses which comprise this graduate certificate are outlined below.  Students elect a total of 9 credit hours from the curriculum.

ECE 530               Energy Storage Systems                               (3 credits)

ECE 541               Intro to Electrical Energy Systems                 (3 credits)

ECE 542               Intro to Power Management & Reliability        (3 credits)

The credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward an ECE graduate degree program, subject to the curriculum requirement of the graduate degree program. Only 500-level or above graduate coursework can be double-counted to meet the degree requirements of ECE graduate programs. Please note that a maximum of two stackable certificates can be used towards earning an ECE graduate degree program.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
