Oxford High School Tragedy (November 30, 2021)

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Today’s school shooting and loss of life at Oxford High School is a senseless and horrific tragedy, one that has shaken our community close to home here in southeast Michigan.

We currently have students enrolled from Oxford High School and employees from Oxford here on campus with personal connections to this tragedy. While we are still learning the details and motivation of the shooter, members of our community and beyond are bewildered and suffering. During this painful time, we must continue to support each other -- our families, friends, colleagues, and neighbors -- and promote the causes of mental health, understanding, and peace.

As always, the university remains committed to helping students, faculty, and staff work through the emotional and psychological toll that this type of violence may inflict. Students who need assistance can contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Faculty and staff may seek support through the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office (FASCCO). If you are experiencing or see something that concerns you, don’t hesitate to contact public safety at 313-593-5333.

With heartfelt sadness and sympathy for the families and friends of all the victims of this terrible event,

Domenico Grasso
Chancellor
