SUBJECT: 2023-24 Provost Fellow Program

February 24, 2023 at 9:33 AM

Dear Colleagues;

The Office of the Provost invites applications for the 2023-2024 Provost Fellows program. This program is designed to provide faculty members with an opportunity to experience and explore the rewards (and challenges) of higher education administration. Faculty members interested in campus leadership have found this program to be good preparation as they have worked with several teams in the day-to-day operations and decision-making processes of campus administration. Faculty fellows also provide the Office of the Provost with ongoing faculty involvement, fresh perspectives, and advice and counsel.

For AY 2023-2024, we will have one fellow who will work on PBL, Urban Futures, course modalities, and expanding the opportunities for undergraduate research.  Typically faculty will participate in the Provost Fellows program for one academic year. Although there is flexibility in terms of assigning projects, most work involves team collaboration and takes place over a period of several months or longer. To that end, the expectation is that the faculty fellow will be given three course releases for the academic year. The Office of the Provost will provide the funding for these releases as agreed upon with the academic deans. Given that the program represents a shared investment in campus leadership between my office and the academic units, it is vitally important to consult with your department chair prior to applying for the program.

Although there is the hope that programs like this will grow the higher education leadership pipeline among faculty, there is no expectation of commitment beyond completion of the Provost Fellows program. Before deciding to submit an application, feel free to contact any of the prior Provost Fellows to learn about their experience (see list below).

Any tenured member of the faculty is eligible to serve as a Provost Fellow. Application details can be found here and application materials can be submitted here.

The deadline for submitting materials is Friday, April 14, 2023.

On behalf of all of us in the Office of the Provost, we look forward to hearing from interested faculty!  Please do not hesitate to contact me, Mitch, Maureen, or McKenna for more information.
