FAQs & Scholarship Specific Information
The Scholar Community is made up of students holding various scholarships that, beyond the point requirement, have different terms and conditions to maintain the scholarship from year to year. Below are the scholarships that makeup the Scholar Community, along with frequently asked questions and the different requirements for each.

Wade McCree Scholarship
2.0 Cumulative GPA after every winter term.
The Scholarship lasts for 8 semesters.
Opportunity/Impact Scholarship
For those scholars who began in Fall 15 or later, the required cumulative GPA is a 2.5 after every winter term.
The scholarship is good for 8 consecutive semesters.
The scholarship is to be used in consecutive semesters. If you need to take a semester off for any reason you will need to contact financial aid and/or the Office of Student Life for support as pausing your scholarship may require submission of an appeal.
Yes, you can choose to use one of your scholarship semester's in the summer. However, this will remove one fall or winter term of eligibility. Prior to deciding it would be best to talk with a success coach or financial aid.
HAIL Scholarship
The HAIL Scholarship covers full tuition and selected fees, less the Federal Pell Grant, for a
maximum of eight (8) semesters or upon the receipt of or eligibility to receive an
undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.
No, the HAIL scholarship does not assist with the cost of housing and/or books at the University
of Michigan-Dearborn.
Yes, the HAIL scholarship can be applied to cover the cost of summer courses. The summer financial aid application must be submitted. This application can be found on the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships website.
You must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher, and also satisfy SAP requirements by completing a successful percentage of courses. For more information regarding SAP, please visit the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships website.
Starting in Fall 2020, there is no 1-year transfer to UM-AA Guarantee. UM-Dearborn Students who have the HAIL scholarship and want to transfer to UM-AA, must apply and be admitted as a transfer student.
You will need to visit the Undergraduate Admissions Office at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor to learn more about the transfer process and requirements.
UM-Ann Arbor maintains a Transfer Credit Equivalency database where you can check to see if a UM-Dearborn class transfers. If a class does not transfer, it is clearly designated as "Not Transferable" in the database
Detroit Promise Scholarship
You need to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA after each Winter semester to maintain your scholarship.
Yes, you need to take 12 credits each semester and be on track to graduate within 4 years. If for some reason you need to take less, you will need to meet with Financial Aid and/or reach out to one of your success coaches in Student Life.
No, the Detroit Promise Scholarship can't be used during a summer semester. You'll want to talk with a financial aid advisor to discuss alternative summer funding options.
