Scholar Community Requirements
Maintaining Your Scholarship
Maintaining your scholarship at the University of Michigan-Dearborn requires giving special attention to the Terms & Conditions associated with the scholarship you are currently receiving. Be informed of the cumulative GPA requirement and any other requirements. If you have questions regarding the Terms & Conditions of your scholarship, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Point Earning for First Year Scholars
After careful thought and consideration, beginning August 31, you are no longer required to earn points in the Talent Gateway. This decision was made in order to better serve you as you matriculate toward graduation. We included this requirement to help you reflect on your academics and your campus and community involvement and how that can impact your growth, but we are changing the requirement because we want to encourage you to engage in ways that are more authentic and autonomous for you.
What does this mean?
This means that if your scholarship was removed due to your inability to earn the required points in the Talent Gateway, but you have met the other requirements to be eligible, your scholarship will be reinstated for the Fall 2021.
This means that if you received any notification regarding not meeting the point requirement for the 2020 -2021 academic year, your scholarship has not been suspended
It is important that you understand that you must have met the other requirements of your university funded scholarship. For example, you are required to earn 10,000 points in the Talent Gateway and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA, if you were unable to earn 10,000 points, your scholarship is not in jeopardy. However, if you completed your points, but your GPA falls below the 2.5 GPA requirement, your scholarship may be suspended.
You are encouraged to stay involved within the Talent Gateway to develop the professional skills that employers are looking for in college graduates as you strive for the (M)Talent Distinction on your official transcript. Visit this website to learn more about how to earn the (M)Talent Distinction.
Point Earning for Second Year Scholars & Beyond
As a part of the Engaged Scholar Program, beginning in your second year at UM-Dearborn, you will earn your required scholarship points through the campus' Talent Gateway. Within the Talent Gateway portal, there are a series of 'Challenges' designated just for Scholars to earn points in order to fulfill the point requirement.
After completing your first year at UM-Dearborn and in the Scholar Community Program, you will continue to complete 5,000 points each semester (Fall & Winter) in the Talent Gateway during your second year.
You can find a breakdown of your point requirement for your second year below.
Semester | Semester Total |
3 |
5,000 points in the Talent Gateway |
4 | 5,000 points Talent Gateway |
= 10,000 points for your second year. = 20,000 points for your first (in Canvas) and second years (Talent Gateway) combined. * You may earn more than 5,000 points each semester and the points will roll over towards meeting the next semester's requirement. |
There is no summer point requirement.
If you have any questions, you can email aqrice@umich.edu or call (313) - 593 -5390.
While the point requirement is for Opportunity Scholarship recipients who entered the Program in Fall 2016 or later and Detroit Promise, Wade McCree and HAIL recipients who entered the Program in Fall 2019 or later, any upper class Scholar is also welcome to complete the Scholar points within the Gateway and have those points count toward the MTalent distinction.
