On Sunday, March 15, 2020, the Public Health Department confirmed that a member of the UM-Dearborn community has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual who tested positive had been self isolating and is receiving treatment. The Health Department is following protocol regarding those that may have come in contact with this person.

Once a test is confirmed as positive, the health department notifies the person tested and shares the appropriate isolation instructions. The health department also reaches out directly to anyone identified as having had close contact with the person testing positive and provides specific instructions on isolation. The health department maintains contact with these individuals throughout the period of isolation. The university has no involvement in these processes and should not interfere.

It is the local health department that releases any information publicly regarding individuals in the county who test positive.

The university maintains its commitment to ensuring the safety of the campus community. The precautions taken by campus leadership, in collaboration with University of Michigan officials and following the guidance of the State of Michigan and the CDC will help us “flatten the curve,” minimizing exposure and helping to prevent the continued spread of the coronavirus.
