Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
Earlier this morning President Schlissel and Marschall Runge, CEO, Michigan Medicine, shared a communication regarding U-M’s COVID-19 vaccination planning. Michigan Medicine is leading vaccinations across all three campuses and the health system. This week, they will begin implementation of Phase 1A (healthcare worker vaccination) of the CDC and state of Michigan distribution plan. This phase does not include any personnel at UM-Dearborn. This is encouraging news however, at this time, many details and questions remain unanswered.
There continues to be dialogue regarding Phase 1B, specifically identifying essential and critical workers on the three campuses, for vaccination. Discussions will continue around this phase in the coming days and weeks. Although certain individuals at high risk for severe COVID-19 illness due to underlying medical conditions, and people 65 years and older will be eligible for vaccination during Phase 1C, it appears that the vast majority of the UM-Dearborn community will fall into Phase 2, the mass vaccination campaign for adults.
Later this week you will receive a survey asking you to indicate whether you want to receive the vaccine, if you are not sure at this time or if you do not want the vaccine, along with a few general health information questions. Survey information will help with prioritization of vaccine distribution. We encourage you to take the survey. Please consider consulting with your physician and reviewing current information about the vaccine before taking the survey.
While there is reason for optimism, we must continue to be patient and remain vigilant, following state and federal health guidance. We will continue to coordinate with Michigan Medicine and keep you apprised of information as it relates to university vaccination plans. You may review the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 vaccination prioritization plan and frequently asked questions document for additional information. We will continue to work diligently to keep our community as safe as possible.
In the meantime, if you have questions regarding the vaccine distribution plan and how it applies to you individually or our campus community collectively, please contact Laura Drabczyk at firstname.lastname@example.org.
