COVID Weekly Update 3/26/21

March 26, 2021

Please find below important reminders regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, testing and protocols, a change in campus procedures regarding faculty offices, and a reminder about our policy on religious holidays.

Dear Colleagues,

Please find below important reminders regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, testing and protocols, a change in campus procedures regarding faculty offices, and a reminder about our policy on religious holidays.

Vaccine Reminders and Information

All faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated prior to the start of the fall semester. The vast majority of our campus community being vaccinated will allow the campus community to realize a safe return to campus this fall. Information about vaccination options was shared last week.

There is no new information regarding Michigan Medicine clinics on our campus. We recommend you seek a vaccination, when you become eligible, through one of the many available channels including your local health department and retail pharmacies. For staff who may have questions about how to code time away from work to receive the vaccine or who experience side effects after receiving the vaccine, please contact Human Resources (humanresourcesdearborn@umich.edu or 313-593-5190).

COVID Testing

As a reminder the final campus testing clinic of the semester will be held on Wednesday, April 7, in the lobby of the Fairlane Center South from 10am - 2pm. In order to secure a testing time, it is important to complete the survey and schedule an appointment by calling 734-539-5111, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Campus Operating Procedure Changes

Beginning Monday, March 29, faculty will be able to access their offices on a limited basis. Faculty may return to their office with no need to gain prior approval. All campus buildings will remain locked but faculty may enter through designated screening stations during limited hours, listed here. During these hours, researchers may also enter their labs without signing up in advance. Please review the faculty office procedure changes here

As a reminder, in-person work is still prohibited under the MIOSHA rules; "to the extent it is feasible," please perform work remotely. If you need to access your office in order to teach or perform other responsibilities, you may do so, following the outlined protocols. If you can work from home, you should continue to do so.

Religious Holidays

During the pandemic faculty and staff have made many accommodations to assist students. Please remember the university has a policy in place to protect religious devotions and obligations. We are approaching many religious holidays that will require us to remain flexible and accommodate student needs. Please review the policy linked above.

Finally, we have experienced a slight increase in the number of COVID cases on campus. There are two classrooms and one research lab currently quarantined as a safeguard because of possible exposure. There are also some student-athletes quarantined. While there is much good news on the COVID front, this is not the time to let our guard down. We should continue to seek vaccinations, remain remote as much as possible, practice good personal hygiene, socially distance and remain vigilant as we work together to beat this virus.

Enjoy the weekend and stay safe.
