COVID Weekly Update 4/9/21

April 9, 2021

While we continue to see a concerning rise in COVID-19 cases across the state of Michigan, there were positive signs this week, as vaccine availability opened up to anyone 16 and over.

Dear Colleagues,

While we continue to see a concerning rise in COVID-19 cases across the state of Michigan, there were positive signs this week, as vaccine availability opened up to anyone 16 and over. Also, Michigan Medicine announced they will open a campus pop-up clinic for our students next week (more below).

We strongly encourage all members of the campus community to make a vaccination appointment as soon as possible. Getting vaccinated will help us all get back to the activities we love more quickly.

Please find below important information regarding the student vaccine clinic and reminders about the Winter 2021 Pass/No Record COVID grading option and final exam study space in the Mardigian Library.

Student Vaccine Clinic
We are pleased to share that Michigan Medicine will provide a Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine clinic for UM-Dearborn students on April 16. Information about the clinic was shared with students earlier this week. The one-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine is highly effective at preventing severe illness from COVID-19. All shots will be administered by appointment only and registration is required. In order to receive an invitation to schedule an appointment for this clinic, UM-Dearborn students must be registered through the Michigan Medicine Blue Queue system. Information on the clinic and how to register in the Blue Queue system can be found on our COVID-19 vaccine website.

Additional Vaccine Information
The COVID-19 vaccine website also includes helpful information for faculty and staff including information on vaccine clinics throughout the region, a helpful fact sheet and tips for planning for your vaccination. Remember that vaccine availability changes frequently, if you are looking for a vaccine appointment it is important to sign-up through various providers and check back often.

Recognizing flexibility is needed so employees can register for vaccine appointments during work hours, as of March 21, 2021, the university is providing employees with up to two hours of paid release time per vaccine dose. Paid release time for vaccination is limited to up to two hours, per vaccination appointment, and for non-exempt staff is reported as REG. (Exempt employees only report exception time). More details and coding time code information is available on the U-M HR website

Reminders:

As our state experiences another surge in COVID cases, please continue to wear a mask, maintain social distance, wash hands frequently and stay home when sick. Let’s work together to have a safe conclusion to the semester.
