Scientific Illustration Showcase

Students in Applied Art faculty member Madeleine Barkey’s ART 327: Scientific Illustration course created geological, botanical and anatomical illustrations that will be on display in the Environmental Interpretive Center during the Winter 2023 semester. As part of the course, which was created by Barkey and took place in Fall 2022, UM-Dearborn students traveled from the Art Studio to the EIC seeking samples and references for their illustrations.

"This is work from the very first Scientific Illustration course at UM-Dearborn, and it was my great pleasure to teach it. These students drew their hearts out with starting assignments such as simple line drawings of objects and then worked more closely with subjects related to geology, biology, botany, and finally the layered anatomy of an animal," said Madeleine Barkey, lecturer ll in applied arts, who coordinated the exhibit for her students.

The “Scientific Illustration Showcase” exhibit features the work of student artists: Andra Dobrescu, Keziah Eggert, Mohamad Hamka, Madeline Hnatiuk, Alexis Kott, Bella Martincic, Eliana Pettigrew, Bella Porbe, Alessia Sciacca, Katie Thompson and Zeke Walker. You can see some of their work below.

The EIC hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
