The PALS program offers supportive peer education for the various academic goals that UM-Dearborn students are working toward. If you're a student striving for academic success, PALS will help you create specific goals and follow an individualized plan to achieve them. Connect with PALS to learn more about effective studying techniques, time management strategies, and other topics to integrate into your plan for success.

All About PALS

Why should I meet with a PAL?

PALS coach students from a peer perspective, as each PAL is a current student. Meeting with a PAL is an opportunity to hear from someone who is going through similar experiences while in college, but with the focus on you and your individual goals.  PALS form a partnership with you to create a success plan and progress through that plan together, using specific tools, resources, and skill development techniques.

PALS also assist with some advising functions such as helping students fill out forms (change of major/minor, add/drop, etc.), navigate University systems, and complete registration requirements each semester.

Do I need to see an advisor before I can meet with a PAL?

If you are a freshman or first-year student at the university, you will need to schedule an appointment with your START advisor regardless, but you do NOT need to consult an advisor before meeting with a PAL.

Do PALS help with registration?

Yes, PALS are able to meet with students to help navigate the registration process and explore DegreeWorks.  More information about advising-related topics can be found in the crash course presentations on YouTube

What other topics can PALS help me with?

PALS can help you with study tips, test taking strategies, time management, registration, goal setting, note taking, online learning tips, instructor communication help, and more!

Feel free to reach out and we'd be happy to be in touch with you about any academically-related goal that you are thinking about!

Meet Your PALS!

"Hi! My name is Miraaj and I am currently in my fourth year here. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood. After graduating, I hope to travel the world and teach internationally. My hobbies include playing tennis, spending time with family and friends, eating good food and traveling. This is my second year as a PAL and I couldn’t be more excited to start. I look forward to connecting with new students and advising them to the best of my ability. I remember all of the logistical and time management struggles I had as a first year student and I hope to make the transition easier for incoming students. This campus is filled with resources and opportunities and I hope students are able to fully utilize them with our help. I look forward to meeting and having a great school year with all of you!”

"Hello! My name is Kristen and I am in my 3rd and final year here at UM-Dearborn. I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry, while earning a Secondary Education certificate through the State of Michigan. When I graduate I look forward to giving back to my community by teaching middle or high school science. Presently, I enjoy baking, conservation, memes, and exploring National Parks. As this is my first year as a PAL I am eager to build meaningful professional connections with my peers that ultimately allows them to be the best they can be. College is a learning opportunity and I am excited to be a part of this experience with my peers!"

"Hi! My name is Lanah and I am a senior at the University of Michigan- Dearborn. I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. After graduating, I am planning on going to medical school to become an OBGYN. My hobbies include driving and solving puzzles. I am beyond excited to be a part of PALS this upcoming year and I’m looking forward to helping students with anything they may need to succeed. Freshman year was definitely challenging for me and I am thankful that I had amazing mentors that guided me and made my transition to the university easier. My goal for this upcoming year is to make our campus feel like 'home' for as many students as possible. I look forward to meeting all of you!"

During the Fall 2021 semester we’ll be conducting academic coaching appointments virtually.  Please email to set up an appointment or fill out our Contact PALS form above.
