A student who wishes to drop all courses should refer to instructions for "Withdrawing from Term."

Unofficial Drop

Students deciding not to attend their elected courses are NOT automatically withdrawn or dropped from these courses and remain liable for all tuition, fees, and penalties. Students must follow the proper drop procedures of the University.

Dropping a Class with no Penalty

Students may drop courses via the UM-Dearborn Connect or through the Enrollment Services during the first two weeks of a full term, or the first week of a half term or mini-term.

Walk-in

NOTE: due to COVID-19 restrictions, walk-in service is not currently available. Add and Drop forms are accepted via email (UMDRegistration@umich.edu), if sent from the umich.edu account.

Forms for the purpose of dropping a course may be picked up from the college in which the student is enrolled, the Enrollment Services counter, or the "Registration and Records Forms" section. Completed forms must be returned to the Enrollment Services counter for processing. The effective date of the drop is the date the drop form is received and signed at the Enrollment Services counter.

The Office of the Registrar-Enrollment Services office hours during add/drop:

Fall/Winter Terms (September-April)

Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Summer Term (May-August)

Monday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The deadline to drop courses with no academic or financial penalty is available on the "Academic Calendar."

Web

Students may use UM-Dearborn Connect to drop a class during the first two weeks of a full term, or the first week of a half term or mini-term. The Web is available from 6:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. 

After the first two weeks of a full term, or the first week of a half term or mini-term, students must contact Enrollment Services (UMDRegistration@umich.edu or 313-583-6500) to drop a class.

Dropping a Course with Penalty

Walk-in Only

After the first two weeks of a full term or the first week of a half term or mini-term, there is no reduction in fee assessments for dropped courses. In addition, a "W" will be recorded on the academic record for the course(s) dropped after this deadline.

The deadline to drop courses with an academic and financial penalty is available on the "Academic Calendar." Any exceptions for dropping courses after this date must be approved by petition to the college in which the student is enrolled.

Dropping a Less Than One-Month Mini-Course

A student may drop from a less than one-month mini-course on or before the first class meeting of such a course without financial penalty. Thereafter, full tuition will be assessed and academic record will reflect the symbol for withdrawal ("W").
