The Engaged Scholars (E-Scholars) Program is a learning community and scholarship program for the highest achieving students from Michigan’s most economically disadvantaged schools districts. Engaged Scholars embody perseverance, achievement and engagement.
Engaged Scholars have a full time Program Coordinator dedicated to supporting their success within the Program and at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Engaged Scholars receive a scholarship and are required to maintain a designated cumulative GPA. During their first 2 years, Scholars must also earn points within the Talent Gateway by submitting challenges based on the three pillars of the Program.
Engaged Scholars have many ways to get involved. Involvement ranges from elected positions, to programming committees, to week long Alternative Spring Break Trips.
Leadership Advisory Board is a key component of the Engaged Scholar Program. It allows Scholars to take on a high level leadership role within the Program, to help the program further develop and evolve. The Leadership Advisory Board consists of the Program's President, vice-President, and the chairpersons from each committee.
Together, these members work to ensure that the overall flow of programmatic components of the Engaged Scholar Program run smoothly by developing ideas for social, service, and academic events
Beyond monthly events, the Scholar Community has a number of committees to get involved in to help guide our programming and involvement on campus and within the metro-Detroit community.

Each year, the Scholar Community participates in the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Program to do community service with local non-profits and bring lessons learned back to metro-Detroit to contribute to the further revitalization of the community. Check out pictures from the most recent trips!
Our Program has many ways for University Alumni, community partners, and University faculty and staff to get involved. Opportunities include serving as a mentor, volunteering at events to welcome new Scholars, helping facilitate workshops, or sponsoring the Program financially to further our ability to send Scholars on service trips and to conferences.
