Call for Commencement Speakers
Each semester the University of Michigan-Dearborn offers a truly unique and special honor to an outstanding graduating undergraduate or graduate student: the opportunity to address the University community during the Commencement Ceremony. This student is provided the distinct opportunity to speak to their student peers, University faculty and staff members, honored guests and families as they depart the University.
- Faculty, staff, and student members comprise the selection committee. The committee will review the applications, possibly meet with select participants in the application pool, and will decide on the speakers in mid March.
The selected speaker MUST be a student in good academic standing in their college, be eligible to graduate this semester, and MUST also be in good judicial standing with the University.
Undergraduate and graduate students may apply.
Selection is based on quality and content of draft proposed speech, oral (video) presentation of draft proposed speech, quality of application materials and demonstrated student experience. The best speeches will be those that are directed at a large number of people; highly personal speeches may not be appropriate.
After selection, the students will receive guidance on preparing and delivering their speech prior to the Commencement Ceremony.
