Summer Semester COVID Protocols (April 27, 2022)

Summer Semester COVID Protocols (April 27, 2022)

Dear Colleagues and Students,

We are writing to share news of our updated COVID health and safety protocols that will be in place for the start of the summer semesters.

UM-Dearborn has used the best science, data, and guidance from various health and government agencies to drive campus policies. This guidance was balanced with the needs and characteristics of our campus community and the state of the pandemic. It is reassuring that our COVID mitigation efforts were successful thanks to your perseverance and commitment to each other. Thank you for all you have done during this academic year.

Beginning Monday, May 2, 2022, the following health and safety protocols will be in effect:

  • The daily health screening through ResponsiBLUE is no longer required, however, it is suggested.
  • It is good practice to monitor your health daily. If you are sick, stay home. If you suspect COVID, please get tested.

  • Per our updated masking policy, all mask requirements on our campus will end. Masking is no longer required in classrooms, labs, clinical spaces (such as CAPS offices) or on university transportation.
  • Masks will continue to be available at current on-campus locations.
  • It is recommended you carry a mask and be considerate of those who wish to continue to wear one or if you are asked to wear a mask while meeting with others choosing to mask.
  • The changes to our policy are consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 community level guidance which provides a measure of the impact of COVID-19 illness on health and healthcare systems in addition to current case activity to allow communities to make decisions on mitigation measures as appropriate for their area. We will continue to monitor data for Wayne County and make any necessary changes to the masking policy on campus if warranted.

Vaccination Policy:

  • Our vaccination policy remains in effect. All students, faculty, and staff are required to be up to date on vaccinations (this includes the booster).
  • The CDC has expanded eligibility for an additional booster dose for certain individuals. An additional booster is not required by the university under the vaccination policy.

  • Those with exemptions are no longer required to submit a weekly negative test before coming to the Dearborn campus.

On-campus Testing Center:

  • The on-campus testing/vaccination clinic will end operations today April 27.
  • Home test kits are available in the Human Resources Office for faculty and staff.
  • Testing and vaccinations continue to be offered at local pharmacies and healthcare providers throughout southeast Michigan.

Reporting of Positive COVID Cases:

  • Students must continue to report positive COVID cases to the Dean of Students Office at 313-593-5056 or email
  • Faculty and staff must continue to report positive COVID cases to Human Resources at 313-593-5190 or email and notify your supervisor.
  • The COVID dashboard will continue to be updated on the university website.

Campus Operations:

  • The campus will resume normal operations related to events, including the Mardigian Library, Environmental Interpretive Center programming, and hosting children on campus.
  • Hand sanitizers and masks will continue to be available throughout campus, and at large gatherings.

Please visit the university’s updated COVID response website for additional information.

The health and safety of our campus community remains our number one priority. University leadership will continue to monitor the impact of COVID throughout the summer and communicate the continuation of these policies, or any variations, prior to the start of the fall semester.

Stay Safe - Go Blue - Go Dearborn!
