Ulrich Kamp joined the University of Michigan-Dearborn as a Professor of Earth & Environment in 2018. He carried out research studies at the Institute for Space Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and as a post-doc at the Department of Geography & Geology at the University of Nebraska—Omaha. He was a Professor of Geography & Environmental Science at DePaul University in Chicago, and a Professor of Geography at the University of Montana. Dr. Kamp’s research is on geomorphology, glaciology, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and natural hazards in mountain environments using a combination of field, lab, and remote sensing methods. He carried out fieldwork in Southern Jordan as well as in the Altai of Mongolia, the Andes of Peru and Venezuela, the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya of India and Pakistan, and the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. Since 2001, he is a member of the international Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) initiative and the co-director of its Regional Center for Mongolia. As an environmental consultant, he worked for the World Bank, USAID, and several German federal and state agencies. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Kamp was a regional planner in Berlin, Germany.
