Aviation expert John Kasarda to speak at UM-Dearborn

DEARBORN--- John Kasarda, director of the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise and professor of information technology and e-commerce at the University of North Carolina, will present "Aerotropolis: Airport-Driven Economic Development" at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at the Environmental Interpretive Center on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

The presentation and a 5:30 p.m. welcome reception is free and open to the public.

Kasarda is a consultant to Wayne County's Department of Jobs and Economic Development on the Pinnacle Aeropark, an economic development initiative in Wayne County designed to develop 1,300 acres located south of Detroit Metro Airport into a technology park. Pinnacle has been designated as one of eleven "Smart Zones" in the state of Michigan and one of three NAFTA corridors in the country.

Kasarda's work, which has been extensively published, focuses on how the economic growth of a region is linked closely to its transportation infrastructure and within recent years, specifically to international gateway airports.

To reserve a spot for Kasarda's presentation, contact Dan Doyle at (313) 593-5656 by Thursday, April 11.
