Girl Scouts will get a look at college-level science
at UM-Dearborn Aug. 14-15
DEARBORN---Detroit-area Cadette Girl Scouts will get to explore careers
in science this week in a campus program coordinated by biology Profs.
Marilee Parsons and Judith Heady. The program, which runs August 14-15,
is called "Lab Coats and Microscopes."
Cadettes are Girl Scouts enrolled in middle school, aged approximately
11 to 14. In the program, the Scouts will gather first-hand experience
in college-level laboratory and research techniques.
Parsons and Heady worked together on science day camps for Girl Scouts
held on campus in the early 1990s. Parsons, who was a Girl Scout as a
youth, has served the Detroit-area Girl Scout council as an advisor on
career and educational issues in the sciences.
