College of Engineering and Computer Science hosts industry on 'Tech Day'

DEARBORN---Research projects that have been conducted by University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Engineering and Computer Science faculty members along with industry partners will be highlighted at Technology Day 2004 from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 9 in the Engineering Complex and Engineering Laboratory Building.

The program, which is open to invited guests, is sponsored by the campus's Center for Engineering Education and Practice (CEEP).

Jack E. Thompson, 2003 president of the Society of Automotive Engineers and former director of computer-aided engineering and concept development at DaimlerChrysler Corporation, will speak at the event.

A memorial tribute will be made to long-time CEEP supporter Henry W. Patton II, who died in July 2003. Patton, the founder and president of an engineering firm called Acromag, left more than $3.6 million to the College of Engineering and Computer Science to support scholarships primarily for students in electrical engineering. The gift is the largest received from an individual in the history of the campus.

A poster session will showcase the collaborative projects of faculty and industry partners, and demonstrations will take place in the laboratories on the first floor of the Engineering Complex.

Dozens of collaborating companies and corporate sponsors including automotive OEMs, automotive suppliers and non-automotive companies are participating in the event.

More information on Technology Day is available at or by calling Donna Goddard at (313) 593-3403.
