Accreditation team set to visit campus
DEARBORN---A team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will visit UM-Dearborn
Sept. 29-Oct. 1 to review the campus's application for continued accreditation.
The eight-member team will be chaired by Marlene Strathe, provost of Oklahoma
UM-Dearborn has been accredited by the commission since 1973, and received
a 10-year renewal of its accreditation in 1993.
During the visit, the team will hold open meetings for faculty and staff.
Open meetings with faculty members are scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 29 and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, both
in Lecture Hall B, School of Management. The open meetings for staff members

In addition to the open meetings, the site visit team will meet with
members of the Faculty Senate, the Staff Senate and members of the administrative
councils and executive committees of the academic units.
The team will also hold a public session to share their preliminary findings
from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 1 in Lecture Hall B, School of Management
The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in
the United States recognized by the U.S. Department of Education that
provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis.
To prepare for the visit, a committee of UM-Dearborn faculty and staff
members has been engaged in a review of the campus's mission, resources,
structure and plans for the future. A comprehensive self-study of the
campus that was assembled as part of the process has been distributed
on compact discs and paper copies to faculty and staff members on campus,
as well as elected student leaders. The self-study is also available on
