DEARBORN---A team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will visit UM-Dearborn Sept. 29-Oct. 1 to review the campus's application for continued accreditation. The eight-member team will be chaired by Marlene Strathe, provost of Oklahoma State University.

UM-Dearborn has been accredited by the commission since 1973, and received a 10-year renewal of its accreditation in 1993.

During the visit, the team will hold open meetings for faculty and staff. Open meetings with faculty members are scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, both in Lecture Hall B, School of Management. The open meetings for staff members are scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 29 in Lecture Hall B, School of Management and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the ROC.

In addition to the open meetings, the site visit team will meet with members of the Faculty Senate, the Staff Senate and members of the administrative councils and executive committees of the academic units.

The team will also hold a public session to share their preliminary findings from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Oct. 1 in Lecture Hall B, School of Management Building.

The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States recognized by the U.S. Department of Education that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis.

To prepare for the visit, a committee of UM-Dearborn faculty and staff members has been engaged in a review of the campus's mission, resources, structure and plans for the future. A comprehensive self-study of the campus that was assembled as part of the process has been distributed on compact discs and paper copies to faculty and staff members on campus, as well as elected student leaders. The self-study is also available on the web at
