Biography and Education

Nevrus Nazarko, Lecturer of Accounting at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business. Nevrus is currently working as  Agency CFO for the City of Detroit Police Department, where he oversees the department's budget and fiscal operations. He also serves as trustee on the pension and VEBA funds, benefiting the retirees of the city. Prior to this, Nevrus worked as Finance Director for the cities of Pontiac, Novi and Hamtramck in Michigan. In total, he has 21 years’ experience working in various positions for local governments. Before that, he worked in the private sector for a local CPA firm and KPMG dating back from 1995. 

Nevrus has extensive experience in teaching, having worked for 8 years as an assistant professor for Colorado Technical University Online, where he taught undergraduate level courses in individual and corporate tax, financial, and governmental accounting. Currently, Nevrus teaches financial accounting courses at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  

Nevrus graduated summa cum laude from Wayne State University with a major in accounting and obtained his MBA degree from the same university in 2003. He holds a CPA license in the State of Michigan and is a member in good standing with professional organizations such as AICPA, Michigan Association of CPA’s, Government Finance Officers Association and Michigan GFOA association.

In his spare time, Nevrus enjoys spending time with family, watches baseball and plays soccer.
