Raju Balakrishnan serves as Dean of the College of Business (COB) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Prior to starting this role in February 2013, he was Senior Associate Dean in the College of Business and Behavioral Science at Clemson University, where he served on the faculty and administration for nearly 19 years. He has also served on the faculty at Tulane University and has taught in Executive MBA programs at Tulane and the University of Georgia. Dr. Balakrishnan earned his Ph.D. in Management from Purdue University, M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, and a B.E. with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras in India.
Under Dr. Balakrishnan’s leadership, COB has experienced significant credit-hour growth thanks to several curricular initiatives as well as new partnerships with universities in China, India, Jordan, and Taiwan. The college has also introduced several new inter-disciplinary programs with other colleges on campus, signed new articulation agreements with leading community colleges in the region, started offering non-degree programs targeted towards working professionals, and is introducing certificate programs.
Dr. Balakrishnan is lead author of the textbook Managerial Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets (Pearson) and has published extensively in leading academic journals. He has been recognized multiple times for teaching excellence at both Clemson and Tulane, and has received several research awards including best paper awards from the Decision Sciences Institute and the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
