Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan Dearborn is a vibrant interdisciplinary community of faculty, students and alumni dedicated to excellence in feminist scholarship, teaching, learning and activism.
The growing field of Women’s and Gender Studies aims to develop knowledge that challenges inequities and divisions based on gender as it connects with sexuality, race, class, religion, ability, age and nationality. Our classes draw upon insights across the disciplines to provide students with the analytic and critical thinking skills necessary to meet future challenges in their work, personal and civic lives.
We offer a major, a minor, and an area of focus in the Bachelor of General Studies Program. We are also the academic hub of the Women in Learning and Leadership program that connects coursework to social change opportunities on campus, in metropolitan Detroit, and beyond.
We invite you to explore this website to find out more about our program. We also welcome you to contact us directly. Whatever your interests, we can help you devise a course of study – from one class to an entire double-major - tailored to meet your needs.
We look forward to hearing from you!

p.s. Many students are surprised to learn how easy it is to add Women’s and Gender Studies as a second major. In most cases, declaring a WGST major or minor does not result in delaying graduation.
