UM-Dearborn strictly prohibits all forms of hazing by students, student organizations, faculty and staff. “Hazing” means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person against another person, regardless of the willingness of the other person to participate, when that act is committed in the course of initiation, affiliation, or maintenance of membership in a student organization and the act causes or creates a risk or physical or psychological injury. Hazing is forbidden in any campus-related activity, on or off University property and online if it threatens campus members. The policy aligns with federal and state laws, including Garret’s Law, which makes hazing a criminal offense. The University Policy Against Hazing includes detailed information about the policy’s scope, definitions, how to report hazing, and the investigation process.
The Department of Public Safety tracks campus crime and safety data, and that data is available in the annual security report. Statistics regarding hazing will be included in the annual security report and be available in a Campus Hazing Transparency Report, which will include a summary of hazing incident findings concerning any established or recognized student organization found to have violated University standards of conduct relating to hazing as defined by the hazing policy.
The Division of Student Affairs prepares the Campus Hazing Transparency Report in collaboration with other campus departments. The Campus Hazing Transparency Report will be updated biannually.
Campus Hazing Transparency Report
In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act (Public Law No. 118–173), the University of Michigan-Dearborn publishes this Campus Hazing Transparency Report to provide public information about student organizations found responsible for hazing violations under the University of Michigan Policy Against Hazing, which prohibits hazing and applies to all students and employees.
The purpose of this report is to promote transparency and awareness in order to strengthen our shared commitment to a safe and respectful campus environment.
This report includes all incidents during the Reporting Period that resulted in a final finding of responsibility for hazing by any university-recognized student organization. Reports will be updated at least twice per year, and each update will remain posted for five (5) calendar years from its publication date.
Reporting Period: July 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
The university did not find during the reporting period that any student organizations recognized by the university violated the University of Michigan Policy Against Hazing during this reporting period.
The University of Michigan–Dearborn complies with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act). For additional information about statistics on hazing, please refer to the Annual Security Report. Further information about the university’s hazing-related programs and prevention efforts, the University of Michigan Policy Against Hazing, and applicable local, State, and/or Tribal laws on hazing is available in the information above.
