Summer Aid
Summer term is considered the end of the academic year. After you have registered and finalized your schedule, submit the summer aid application. The amount of aid that a student is eligible for during the summer term depends on how much was used during the fall and winter semesters. Students must have a 2023-24 FAFSA on file to be considered for grants and loans.
*Scholarship-only students–use the form below to request your scholarship for the summer term. Keep in mind, that most scholarships require full-time enrollment. In addition, you will be using a semester’s worth of eligibility.
Only use this form if you were already awarded one of these scholarships. No new awards will be given.

If you are enrolled in three credits for Summer I and three credits for Summer II, loans will not disburse until June 27, 2024. No late fees or holds will be applied to your account as a result of this.
Enrollment Requirements
Carefully consider the courses you decide on for the summer term. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is required to monitor changes in enrollment. Changes in your enrollment may impact your aid eligibility. If you drop a course and your instructor does not confirm that you attended the course, your aid will be reduced or canceled.
We encourage students to contact our office to discuss how dropping a course may impact their financial aid. If you withdraw from all courses without notifying our office that you will attend a future course, you will be subject to reduction and/or cancellation of any unearned aid.
Study Abroad
If you plan to study abroad in the Summer, please submit the Study Abroad Aid Application via MNavigator, instead of this application.

Students who wish to study abroad may potentially use federal student aid, university scholarships, private scholarships and loans to meet some or all of the educationally-related costs. It is strongly recommended that students begin the financial aid process at least three months before the program of study begins.
Students who are NOT applying for their trip via M-Navigator should schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid Advisor via their MyUMDearborn student portal to discuss specific requirements for financial aid eligibility.
Award Eligibility Requirements
Federal PELL Grant
Once you register for summer courses, you will be offered any eligibility you have remaining from your annual award. If you enroll in at least six credits(undergraduates only) you could be eligible for an additional PELL award for the semester.
Eligibility for the Federal PELL grant depends on the number of credits the student elects to take and how much grant eligibility they have remaining.
- If the student enrolls less than half time (1-5 credits), they will only be eligible funds if they have not used their full annual award.
- If the student enrolls at least half time (6 credits and above), they will qualify for additional PELL grant funding up to 150% of their annual award.
Here are some examples of a student with a 0 EFC and full Pell eligibility for the year.

Scholarships

Students who would like to use a full semester of eligibility of their University Scholarship for the Summer term should indicate this on the Summer Aid Application. Using your University Scholarship in the summer has its benefits. Students are encouraged to review the terms and conditions of your award before utilizing this option.
*Please note that full-time enrollment in the Summer is the same as in Fall or Winter (12 credits), but it can be split over the terms available between May and August. For example, you can take six credits in Summer 1, three credits over the whole summer, and three credits during Summer 2 and you will have been enrolled full-time.
Federal Loans

Loan eligibility is based on your class level and dependency status, as well as how much loan funding you used in the fall and winter terms
You will not receive a loan offer if you have met your annual limits for the academic year. See more information about loan limits and requirements for disbursement.
To apply for Parent PLUS or Graduate PLUS loan funding for the term, applications must be completed by the borrower at studentaid.gov.

Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students must make satisfactory academic progress toward completion of a degree in order to remain eligible for financial aid. Federal regulations require the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to monitor the progress of each student toward their degree completion. Students who fall behind in their coursework or who fail to achieve minimum standards for grade point average and completion of classes may lose their eligibility for all types of federal, state, and university aid. If so, eligibility may be reinstated upon approval of a SAP Appeal via StudentForms.
Award Notifications
Once your application has been processed, your Summer aid offer will be available for review in your My UM-Dearborn portal. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact our office.
Other Important Information
Audited Courses & Additive Credit (non-remedial) - These courses are not eligible for financial aid and do not count towards financial aid enrollment hours.
Repeated Courses - A course completed successfully may only be covered by financial aid for one additional attempt.
Participation is important - In order to be eligible for Federal aid, you must demonstrate participation by receiving a passing grade. If your drop a course, or receive a failing grade, your instructor will be asked to verify your participation in class. If you fail to participate in class, your aid could be adjusted. This may result in a balance owed to the University.
