U.S. ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch (pictured above, left) chatted with Ara Sanjian, director of UM-Dearborn's Armenian Research Center, during her campus visit last month as part of a four-state tour to meet with Armenian-Americans.
Yovanovitch held a number of private meetings on campus with members of local Armenian-American organizations to encourage them to help with efforts of building up the post-Soviet Republic of Armenia.
The ambassador also held a town hall meeting on campus with the local Armenian-American community (pictured below) to discuss U.S.-Armenian relations and ways in which the U.S. government was assisting Armenia. During the town hall meeting, she also answered questions from the audience on a variety of topics, including the provision of technical support by private U.S. organizations to Armenia; issues related to corruption in Armenia; the possibilities of developing tourism there; as well as Armenia's relations with its neighbors, Russia, Turkey and Iran.
