M. Robert Fraser honored for service to faculty governance

October 24, 2011

In recognition of his efforts in promoting faculty governance, M. Robert Fraser, associate director for scholarly resources, received the Jackie Lawson Memorial Faculty Governance Award from U-M’s Faculty Senate during a ceremony earlier this month on the Ann Arbor campus.

The award is named for Jackie Lawson, professor of English and communications at UM-Dearborn from 1985 to 2000, who was deeply committed to faculty governance and to strengthening relationships among the University’s three campuses. At the time of her death, Lawson was serving as chair of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA), the first faculty member from one of the regional campuses elected to that position.

Fraser was honored for excelling in the area of faculty governance service to the entire university, reaching beyond the Dearborn campus and succeeding in building positive relationships between the Ann Arbor campus and the regional campuses.

Fraser has served on numerous University committees, including three years on the UM-Dearborn Faculty Senate and the Campus Benefits Committee, where he was the founding chair.

He also served six years on the University Senate Assembly, and three years on SACUA. For more information on Fraser’s accomplishments, see the article in the University Record.
