Nominations sought for distinguished research, teaching and service awards

Nominations are being accepted for the 2011 Distinguished Research Award, Distinguished Service Award and Distinguished Teaching Award.

The Distinguished Research Award honors UM-Dearborn faculty members who have exhibited extraordinary scholarship and have consistently and frequently published important works that enlarge the scope of human knowledge, or who consistently have produced acclaimed creative works. In disciplines such as engineering and science, a distinguished record of external funding may be an important consideration. Up to two awards of $3,000 will be awarded.

Nomination packets for the Distinguished Research Award should include a nomination form, a nomination letter, the nominee's current curriculum vita and research statement, and two external letters of support from references familiar with the nominee's research.

The Distinguished Service Award honors a UM-Dearborn faculty or staff member who has applied his or her expertise to benefit the public good and whose work enhances the quality of campus life and/or the visibility and reputation of the University. One award of $3,000 will be awarded.
Nomination packets for the Distinguished Service Award should include a nomination form, a nomination letter and three letters of support from campus or community leaders.

The Distinguished Teaching Award honors three UM-Dearborn faculty members (tenured, non-tenured and lecturer) who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching, including evidence of effectiveness in the classroom and the revitalization of courses and curriculum.
Three awards of $3,000 each will be awarded. Nominations are open to the campus community. Students and student groups are especially encouraged to participate in the nomination process.

Nomination packets for the Distinguished Teaching Award should include a nomination form, a letter of nomination, two letters of support from students, and two letters of support from faculty. Teaching evaluations from students also will be requested by the Office of the Provost.
