E-Academy, a two-week "boot camp" for budding high school entrepreneurs, returned on July 5 for a fourth successful summer at UM-Dearborn's College Of Business. And this year, participants are blogging about their experiences at umdearborneacademyblogs.com.
The blog chronicles the camp's mentors and participants as selected students from local high schools attend lectures on campus, work with faculty and local business leaders to brainstorm ideas for a business, and ultimately map out a specific business plan.
At the end of the two-week session, College of Business alumni and local business leaders choose first-, second- and third-place winning teams who receive partial college scholarships. Past winning teams have created business plans for an eco-friendly fitness center, a full-service day care and technology for a fast food kiosk.
E-Academy is a partnership between The College of Business and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), the global collegiate student organization. Comprised of a group of students who are dedicated and determined to playing their role in the rebuilding of Detroit, SIFE-Dearborn has completed 15 projects, which have had a cumulative economic impact of more than $270,000 on nearly 32,000 people in the Metro Detroit region.
