ECEC earns grant to provide free preschool education; program spots available

August 10, 2013

The University of Michigan-Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) has received a competitive grant for the Michigan Department of Education’s Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP).

The grant, totaling $258,400, will pay tuition costs for 76 children to attend the ECEC during the 2013-14 school year.

The GSRP provides free preschool education to 4-year-old children who exhibit factors that may place them at risk for achieving school success including low family income, environmental risks and parents with low educational attainment.

The ECEC seeks to fill the open program spots. Families may attend either four half-day sessions or four full-day sessions for 32 weeks. Please contact the ECEC at 313-593-5424 if you are interested in learning more about the grant program.

The ECEC has received the GSRP grant since 2004 to support the child care needs of campus and community families.
