The Women's and Gender Studies Program, the Arab American National Museum (AANM), and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters will host Evelyn Alsultany--guest curator of the AANM's online exhibit Reclaiming Identity: Dismantling Arab Stereotypes--on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in 1030 CASL Building.
Reclaiming Identity traces the history of stereotyped Arab representations in the U.S. media and dismantles those images to represent and understand Arab American lives in their rich diversity.
Alsultany, an expert on representations of Arab and Muslim identities in the U.S. media post 9/11, will discuss the concepts used to frame the exhibit, the process of putting the exhibit together,
and talk about some of the images themselves - with particular attention to the gendered nature of these representations.
The online exhibit can be found at http://arabstereotypes.org/.
