External grant awards for Dearborn faculty

Martha Adler, professor in the School of Education, received $244,524 from the U.S. Department of Education to fund the fifth and final year of her $1.1 million project to improve Dearborn public school teachers’ ability to teach English as a second language.

Dohoy Jung, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, received $40,000 continuation funding from Ford Motor Company to develop a virtual computer simulation program of diesel engines as an engine control development tool that will shorten the engine development process.

Yi Lu Murphey, professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering, received $40,000 from the Ford Motor Company to support expenses for a year for a Ph.D. student who will be researching the predictive relationships between physiological measures of a driver's condition and driver actions.

Roger Verhey, professor emeritus of mathematics and statistics, received a $13,320 supplement to his Improving Teacher Quality grant from the Michigan Department of Education to provide document cameras to special education teachers of algebra 2.

Bruce Pietrykowski, professor of economics, received $4,862 from the Sugar Law Center to study and document wage theft among contingent workers in Detroit.
