Now, as newly elected chair of the Staff Senate, Kennard looks to give back to the University.
Staff Senate, which consists of staff members from each administrative department and academic unit, provides an opportunity for staff members to express their ideas and viewpoints to the leadership of the University.
Members of the Staff Senate advise and make recommendations on existing and proposed University policies procedures, and oversee inclusion of staff members on key University committees.
“Serving as the chair of the Staff Senate will allow me to provide the type of leadership that fosters and encourages collaboration and engaging communications between staff and the University community,” Kennard said.
Also recently elected, Rand Kazanji was named vice chair. Kazanji is an admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions and Orientation.
“This position allows me to give back to the University that gave me so much and made me the person I am today,” Kazanji said. “I hope to nurture the relationships I have established and become even more engaged with University matters.”
Judy Walker, disability services coordinator within Counseling and Disability Services, has been elected secretary.
“The Staff Senate is excited to address concerns and give feedback to staff. Our UM-Dearborn staff members have innovative, exciting ideas that we are anxious to hear about,” she said.
In addition to Kennard, Kazanji and Walker, the 2012 Staff Senate council includes Cindy Hanes-Berry (Government Relations), Susan Flannery (Library) and Lori Petrick (LCC).
