Ahmad A. Rahman, associate professor of history and director of UM-Dearborn's African and African American Studies program, recently received the David Wiley Award from the Association of African Studies Programs (AASP).
David Wiley was one of the founders of the AASP and has actively participated in its policy making and planning. The David Wiley Award was established to honor Wiley's contributions while encouraging and supporting new AASP members to attend the group's annual spring meetings.
"At the University of Michigan, we have known for some time that Dr. Ahmad Rahman is an excellent teacher and scholar," said Lester Monts, senior vice provost of U-M Ann Arbor. "His stellar study, The Regime Change of Kwame Nkrumah, provides a significant contribution to understanding Nkrumah's influence on African history and politics. It is, therefore, quite fitting that Dr. Rahman is recipient of the Association of African Studies Programs' David Wiley Award. The award not only celebrates Dr. Rahman's commitment to African studies, but also is an important message about the level of scholarship being conducted by faculty members at the University of Michigan-Dearborn."
