Hani Bawardi, assistant professor of history, and Sally Howell, assistant professor of history, will be among the leading scholars from colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Arab World to examine topics such as 9/11, immigration, sexuality and art during an Arab American history conference at the Arab American National Museum Nov. 4-6. Bawardi will speak on "Whither Arab American Studies? Heeding Michael Suleiman’s Call to Write a Comprehensive History of Arab and Arab American Experiences." Howell will speak on "Muslims as Moving Targets: External Scrutiny and Internal Critique in Detroit's Mosques."

This year, the Office of Admissions and Orientation has won two 2011 National Orientation Directors Association Publications and Media Showcase Awards, which is a national publication showcase that consists of items submitted from colleges and universities all over the country.
The first award is for Outstanding Website for UM-Dearborn's Online Orientation website which can be viewed at http://www.umd.umich.edu/onlineorientation/. Laura Anselm worked on this incredible website. The second award is for Outstanding General Brochure (Special Populations) for UM-Dearborn's Transfer Orientation Brochure. James Shearer designed this outstanding brochure. These awards and entries will be on display at the 2011 National Orientation Directions Association Conference in New Orleans, LA from Oct. 30 - Nov. 1.
