The Library recently added to its collection books on six Kindle e-readers. Two Kindles contain the four titles being discussed by the R.E.A.D. Book Club this academic year: Water for Elephants (September 27), The Help (November 16), At the Dark End of the Street (February 21), and The King’s Speech (April 11).
Other Kindle e-readers will have fiction and non-fiction titles selected from the New York Times bestseller lists or lists of notable books. Current titles include: Greater Journey: Americans in Paris by David McCullough, In the Garden of the Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin by Erik Larson, Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain by David Eagleman, Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell, Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard, and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.
You may suggest titles to be added to our Kindle collection at the Library’s website http://library.umd.umich.edu/Us/books.php. The Library also is collaborating with several faculty members on a pilot project to put course readings onto Kindles for students to checkout.
Curious about whether or not you would enjoy reading an entire book on an e-reader? Ask at the Circulation Desk for one of our new Kindles. They are available for a three-week loan period.
Library Research Assistance at Fairlane Center South
This fall, the Library is coming to you! We are offering library research assistance at Fairlane Center South (FCS). Let us help you find the best resources for your paper or class assignments.
Library assistance is available Monday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m. You can find us near the entrance of the FCS dining area. Look for the sign “Mardigian Library Research Assistance @ Fairlane.”
If you are in the Library, we can assist you there as well. The Library Research Center hours are:
Monday – Thursdays: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sundays: Noon to 10 p.m.
Turnitin: Plagiarism Detection Software
Turnitin is a web-based software program for plagiarism detection and prevention. Both students and faculty may submit papers electronically with a Turnitin account. Join other faculty members who have already started using the campus site license to Turnitin. Information on how to set up an account can be viewed on the Library’s website at: http://library.umd.umich.edu/Services/plagiarismnew.php.
