Elaine M. Logan joins the University of Michigan-Dearborn community this month as the Mardigian Library’s new director.
Logan comes to UM-Dearborn from Eastern Michigan University, where she has been the associate university librarian since 2007.
From 1998 to 2007, Logan served in various roles, including director for library and information services at Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert/Pfizer. Her responsibilities at Pfizer included leading a team of professionals responsible for global and site library services. Team achievements included the creation of the global digital library, establishing the global library archive to provide document delivery, and managing a proprietary published product information repository. Logan worked closely on a team with scientists and researchers to create new paradigms for integrating published and proprietary information. This team also found innovative ways to analyze and use information and technology to solve scientific problems and speed the invention of new medicines.
Logan is not a stranger to UM-Dearborn. From 1987 to 1991, she was a cataloger at the library, where she transformed the technical services department to an all-electronic workflow. She also has ties to the Ann Arbor campus, where she obtained her Master of Arts in Library and Information Science, and where her husband is the communications director for the housing administration.
Serving in numerous leadership roles within Michigan’s library community, Logan currently is a member of the board of trustees for the Library of Michigan and served as the board's chair from 2006 to 2009. She also is a member of the Library of Michigan Foundation Board and is the board chair for the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services, an organization that supports Michigan and Indiana Libraries.
Logan’s combination of academic and corporate experience; her work with faculty, students, scientists and researchers; and her management expertise will be valuable assets in her new role as library director.
