The University of Michigan-Dearborn associate professor of economics recently accepted a three-year appointment as associate dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL), pending approval by the U-M Regents.
“I just saw this as a natural progression,” said Miteza, whose appointment began this semester. “After spending over 10 years in teaching and writing research, I thought this would not only be a great way to give back to the university, but also help me learn how universities are managed.”
He has taught international finance, macroeconomics and monetary theory at UM-Dearborn since 2001. Miteza joins mathematics professor Jennifer Jing Zhao, who also serves as CASL associate dean.
“A couple of colleagues prodded me and suggested this would be very good for the college, as well as for me,” he said.
Miteza’s service to UM-Dearborn, along with being an accomplished scholar and outstanding instructor, made him the clear choice for the role, said CASL Dean Jerold Hale.
Miteza served on the Academic Senate and as senate liaison to the CASL Executive Committee, where he demonstrated an abiding sense of fairness in his work, a penchant for data based decision-making and a careful attention to detail, Hale said.
“Taken together, those qualities make Ilir especially well-suited to the role of associate dean,” Hale said. “I look forward to working with him. I am certain he will serve the college and university well.”
