At its Winter 2011 meeting, the Faculty Senate Research Support Board made the following campus grant awards to University of Michigan–Dearborn faculty and students.
Faculty Research Initiation and Seed Grants provide up to $6,000 to full-time faculty for research and other scholarly activities. These grants are intended to provide funding for projects which will lead to future external grant support.
Awards were made to:

• Hong Tae Kang, assistant professor, mechanical engineering
• Yangjin Kim, assistant professor, mathematics
• Hafiz Malik, assistant professor, electrical and computer engineering
• Peter Oelkers, assistant professor, natural sciences
• Andrea Olive, assistant professor, social sciences
• German Reyes–Villanueva, associate professor, mechanical engineering
• Zhimin Xi, research assistant professor, industrial and manufacturing systems engineering
Faculty Research Support and Maintenance Grants provide up to $6,000 for significant projects in fields where there are few opportunities for external funding.

• Ivy Forsythe-Brown, assistant professor, behavioral sciences
• James Gilmore, clinical associate professor, language, culture and communications
• Carolyn Kraus, professor, language, culture and communications

• Shelley Perlove, professor, literature, philosophy and the arts
• Vivek Sharma, assistant professor, accounting and finance
• Jacqueline Vansant, professor, language, culture and communications
Rackham Replacement (Step 2) Grants for Research provide up to $15,000 for projects that foster high-quality scholarship and research, relate to the applicant’s career goals, and will result in tangible products such as papers, presentations or grant proposals.

• Caitlin Finlayson, assistant professor, language, culture and communication
• Juliette Roddy, assistant professor, social sciences
• Nadja Rottner, assistant professor, literature, philosophy and the arts
CASL Faculty Summer Research Grants provide up to $7,000 to CASL faculty for projects that foster high-quality scholarship and research, relate to the applicant’s professional career goals, and supports work that will lead to a proposal for external funding.
Awards were made to:
Sonia Tiquia, associate professor, natural sciences
Michael Twiner, assistant professor, natural sciences
Undergraduate Research Fellowships provide $2,500 to undergraduate students whose academic record demonstrates preparedness and commitment to excellence. Students are nominated by a faculty advisor and will complete an independent research project.
Awards were made to:
