At the Board of Regents February meeting, a new standing committee — The Dearborn and Flint Governance Committee — was announced. Get the latest from the U-M Board of Regents meeting.

The UM-Dearborn items below were covered at the Feb. 20 U-M Board of Regents  meeting.

The Board of Regents moved to establish a new standing committee to focus on the Dearborn and Flint campuses. The new committee was announced by Board of Regents Chair Ron Weiser. Weiser said Regent Michael J. Behm, a Flint-area resident, will chair the committee. The Dearborn and Flint Governance Committee will receive reports on the finances, strategies and priorities of the regional campuses. Behm said the committee would get periodic reports on such topics as student success, enrollment, human capital, research, compensation, diversity and budget priorities. The committee will meet regularly with the chancellors on the Dearborn and Flint campuses.

Chancellor Grasso shared the following UM-Dearborn updates with the Regents:
• UM-Dearborn’s participation with the DTE Energy Contest 
• CECS’s Department of Energy (ARPA) award to research electric power converters
• UM-Dearborn was named a “top producing institution” for Fulbright Scholars
• Anna Muller’s book, If the Walls Could Speak: Inside a Women’s Prison in Communist Poland, was the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America’s 2019 Oskar Halecki Award 

The following personnel actions were approved.

Susan E. Alcock, professor of anthropology, with tenure, CASL, effective January 1, 2020 (also provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, UM-Dearborn, and professor of archaeology and classics, with tenure, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, UM-Ann Arbor).
